In light of the COVID-19 crisis, some gyms and workout facilities in Vicksburg have decided to close their doors to members.

Wyatt’s Gym on Manor Drive has closed its doors until further notice, which may come as a shock to some as it is known as the gym that never closes. Wyatt’s is a 24-hour, 7-days a week gym that has been open even through major holidays.

Planet Fitness on Indiana Avenue has also closed down because of the spread of the virus. Planet Fitness is the newest gym to open in Vicksburg toward the end of 2019.

Elite Performance on Mission 66 remains open, and Anytime Fitness in Pemberton Plaza has announced they will remain open until Mississippi forces them to close.

Fitness Works on North Frontage Road will remain open for now.

“We decided to remain open because we have members who are rehabilitation stage from injuries so we did not want to shut them out,” said Kim Pace, Fitness Works owner and a trainer at the facility. Pace has tightened rules for the gym. Everyone must sanitize before entering and machines must be wiped down after use.

The Vicksburg YMCA still has its doors open for members, as they are going through an expansion. The YMCA suspended child care this week and will inform everyone when it will be offered again.

Plans change and new guidelines are being issued constantly. The Vicksburg Daily News will attempt to keep our readers updated on closures.
