VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —Local residents will have the chance to enjoy free popcorn and view two movie showings “Spaced Invaders” and “My Omaha” at Vicksburg’s historic The Strand Theatre this weekend.

Westside Theatre Foundation will present movies both Saturday and Sunday at the theatre’s location at 717 Clay Street.

Saturday

Beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, the theatre will show “Spaced Invaders”. Just in time for Halloween, the movie is quoted as being a funny movie with compelling characters that’s fun for the whole family. Furthermore, “Spaced Invaders” revolves around five Martians who invade the sleepy town of Big Bean, Ill., and are mistaken as trick-or-treaters.

Advanced tickets are $9 and are available at Highway 61 Coffeehouse, 1101 Washington St., Vicksburg, MS 39183. Door tickets are $10.

Sunday

Event goers will also have the chance to view “My Omaha” Sunday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. The Strand will offer tickets for $5 at the door. According to a press release, “My Omaha” follows filmmaker Nick Beaalieu as he returns to his hometown amid the rising tensions of Donald Trump’s presidency and the Black Lives Matter movement.

“My Omaha” is presented by IRL Movie Club. The club is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening democracy through the power of shared experience and dialogue. According to the club’s website, members gather at local theaters, watch a well-curated and timely film, and are encouraged to have a conversation with seatmates. Instead of traditional filmmaker Q&As, the club offers audience-driven dialogue, using simple prompts to spark meaningful discussion.

With $5 tickets, IRL strives to keep events affordable and accessible. At the same time supporting independent filmmakers and helping to revitalize local movie houses as vital civic and cultural spaces.

Membership is free, thanks to generous donors. Sign up at the club’s webpage, https://www.irlmovieclub.org, to be the first to hear about upcoming screenings.

With the diversity of showings The Strand offers a chance of entertainment for all ages.
