United Way establishes disaster relief fund
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — United Way of West Central Mississippi has established a Winter Storm Disaster Relief Fund to provide long-term assistance to individuals and families impacted by recent winter storms across our service area, including Warren, Yazoo, Claiborne, Sharkey, and Issaquena Counties.
Freezing temperatures, power outages, and hazardous living conditions have created urgent challenges for many residents, particularly those already facing financial instability. The fund will support critical needs, including warming supplies and recovery services through trusted local organizations. United Way of West Central Mississippi will not provide monetary assistance but will work diligently with these organizations to secure the necessary resources for those affected.
“Our community has been hit hard by these winter conditions, and many families are struggling to stay safe and warm,” said Alyssa Lick, Director of Marketing and Resource Development for United Way of West Central Mississippi. “This fund allows us to respond quickly and ensure help reaches those who need it most, right here in the communities we serve.”
Donations to the Winter Storm Disaster Relief Fund will remain local to the service areas we serve and be strategically distributed to address the most pressing needs as they arise. United Way is working closely with partner organizations to assess impacts and coordinate relief efforts efficiently.
Community members are encouraged to support relief efforts by donating online at www.unitedwayvicksburg.org, clicking Donate, and selecting the 2026 Winter Storm Disaster Relief Fund under the Campaign. Contributions of any size can make an immediate difference for families affected by the winter storm.
