Vicksburg National Military Park to reopen today

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Due to the government shutdown the military park was to close, however, a local organization has funded it’s reopening.
“The Vicksburg National Military Park will reopen today. Thursday, October 2, 2025.” The organization, The Friends of the Vicksburg Military Park, thanks critical donations from the friends of their group. The Visitor Center, tour roads, USS Cairo Gunboat & Museum, and the restrooms will be open and available for visitors.
“As the Park’s nonprofit partner and with your help, we are stepping up to protect this hallowed ground at its most vulnerable moment—ensuring it remains protected, safe, clean, and accessible to the thousands of visitors from around the world who come here each week.”
You can help keep VNMP open
To help keep the park open and protected, visit: www.friendsofvicksburg.org. Every gift of any size helps. It will cost an estimated $2,000 per day to keep the park open for the duration of the government shutdown.
The Vicksburg National Military Park, along with all units of the National Park Service, have been preserved in order to protect and interpret our country’s natural, historic, and cultural resources. They are America’s Best Idea and deserve our protection at all times. Allowing VNMP to close—or keeping it open but unclean and unprotected from vandalism and looting—is simply not an option for our supporters. Thank you for your help.
