VICKSBURG, Miss. (Vicksburg Daily News)–The spring 2021 football season is where Vicksburg native Jeff Scott, Jr. made his impact in college football on the Division 1 level.

Scott currently plays cornerback for Alabama State University where he received plenty of playing time in his first season with the team.

“I did well enough to compete and I showed my coaches that I deserved to be on the field,” Scott said.

Coming out of Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Scott chose ASU after being given the opportunity to expand his playing career.

“I love home but ASU gave me the chance to play out of state,” Scott said.

While getting adjusted to playing on a higher level, Scott had to work his way up the depth chart to prove he was worthy of getting on the field. His biggest highlight in the spring is when he got the game winning interception against Jackson State University to give the Hornets the win.

Now that Scott has gotten his first season with the Hornets out of the way, he still has three years of eligibility left and is currently preparing for the fall.

“I’m really looking forward to competing and helping my team reach the SWAC Championship,” Scott said.

Scott and the Hornets open their seas against Miles College on September 4, 2021 as they strive for a SWAC title.

Scott is currently a redshirt sophomore while majoring in Physical Education and business management.
