VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg native Morgan Nelson has officially been accepted into the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, marking another major milestone in her already impressive academic and pageant career. Nelson, who currently holds the title of Miss Starkville 2026, received her acceptance letter this week, just months after graduating summa cum laude from Mississippi State University.

Nelson shared the news with her parents in a surprise TikTok video that quickly spread among friends, family and supporters.

Acceptance into the University of Mississippi School of Medicine requires meeting a rigorous list of academic, testing, and experiential qualifications — all of which Nelson successfully completed. Her latest accomplishment adds to a growing list of honors earned over the past several years.

In 2023, Nelson was crowned Miss Mississippi State University, and the following year she earned the title of Miss Vicksburg. This past summer, she advanced to the Top 11 in the Miss Mississippi Pageant, where she also finished as second runner-up. Nelson earned multiple preliminary honors, including evening gown, fitness, and the Women in Medicine Award. She was awarded nearly $10,000 in scholarships at the event.

Nelson also received Mississippi State University’s Spirit of State Award in April, recognizing her leadership, character, and contributions to the campus community.

Now representing Starkville, Nelson continues her journey toward becoming a medical doctor — a goal she has pursued with the same dedication that has defined her academic and pageant success.
