Vicksburg woman working for MDOC arrested for contraband

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A Vicksburg woman working for the department of corrections is one of three people who have been arrested and charged by the MDOC. In a post on their social media page, MDOC reports:
Three former MDOC officers arrested for smuggling contraband into state prison
The Mississippi Department of Corrections charged three correctional officers this week after discovery of alleged attempts to smuggle contraband for inmates into the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County.
Investigators seized contraband recovered during searches of the officers’ work bags including cell phones, food, alcohol, and controlled substances. Three corporals arrested in separate incidents included Sherry McCollum, Kiarra Michael, and Theresa Hasty.
McCollum, 49, of Jackson, was charged with introduction of contraband; two counts of introduction of a controlled substance; and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute – all into a correctional facility. She had worked for MDOC since February 2023.
McCollum was arrested Sunday evening after a search of her belongings revealed four cell phones, 232 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and 76 grams of marijuana. Investigators also confiscated food in a container including a steak and items resembling sausages wrapped in tape.
Michael, 33, of Jackson, was charged under the general prohibitions statute and conspiracy. Michael was arrested Sunday morning after a search of her belongings revealed 10 cell phones and a wall charger. Michael was released on bond. She had worked for MDOC since July 2023.
Hasty, 33, of Vicksburg, was charged with sale, possession, or use of alcoholic beverages within facilities and conspiracy. Hasty was apprehended early Monday morning after a search of her belongings revealed 30.4 fl. oz. of Everclear brand liquor. Hasty had worked for MDOC since November 2023.
The MDOC remains vigilant through efforts to make prisons safer by stopping the flow of contraband such as drugs, cellphones, and other illegal items to inmates.
“Regretfully, sometimes our employees cross the line, and we must send a message that introducing contraband into our facilities will not be tolerated,” Commissioner Burl Cain said. “We will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, and the corrupt inmates will receive severe disciplinary action.”

Theresa Hasty, 33, of Vicksburg, was charged with sale, possession, or use of alcoholic beverages within facilities and conspiracy. Hasty was apprehended early Monday morning after a search of her belongings revealed 30.4 fl. oz. of Everclear brand liquor. Hasty had worked for MDOC since November 2023.
