Vicksburg, Miss. (VDN)— William Holmes Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 18, 2025. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, William and Helen Holmes; his grandparents, Frazier and Fannie Holmes, and Henrietta and Monroe Tenner; and his cherished daughter, Carisa Queen Merritt. Though his earthly journey has ended, the legacy of William Howard Holmes, Jr. lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

William leaves to cherish his memories three daughters: (3) daughters – Sharon Barker of Fayette, MS; Tyeisha Pegues and Renise Agee-Holt (Cortez) of Vicksburg, MS one sister: Mamie HoImes of Fayette, MS, ten grandchildren: Trennis Gooden, Tremilla Gooden, and Titus Gooden of Fayette, MS; T’Kiya Pegues, Marcus Evans, Jr. of Vicksburg, MS; Kentrell Queen, Shenique Merritt of Fayette, MS; Cornelius Merritt; Melody Holt, and Destiny Holt, of Vicksburg MS; one niece Monica Holmes Brown (Clifford) of Pearl, MS, one nephew David Houston, Jr. of Fayette, MS. Three uncles: Charles Holmes (Corine) of Vicksburg, MS; Edwines; Huey Holmes, Sr. (Marie) of Natchez, MS; one aunt – Edith Banks of Las Vegas, Nevada and a host of great nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, cousins, and friends.

William received his education through the Jefferson County School System, where he developed a passion for football and built friendships which would last a lifetime. A lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins, he also enjoyed watching professional wrestling and had an enduring love for cars and trucks—especially Fords.

After graduating high school, William relocated to Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he built a career and a community driving cabs for over 20 years and later for himself for an additional 20 plus years. To many of his passengers, he was more than just a driver—he was a trusted friend. William was known for his kind spirit and generous heart. Family meant everything to him, and he often expressed his love through acts of giving. Countless stories from friends and family reflect the many ways William touched lives, always ready to lend a helping hand.

If you’d like to celebrate the life of William Holmes Jr., both his visitation and memorial service will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Center located at 1625 Monroe Street Vicksburg, Mississippi 39183. Memorial on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 1-6 p.m. Funeral on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 2 p.m.
