Laurel fire destroys home and car Friday

A home and a car in the carport of the home were destroyed by a fire in Laurel.
According to Public Information Officer Dana Bumgardner, the fire happened on Sherwood Drive shortly before noon.
The 911 caller said that flames were visible near the carport of the home.
Shady Grove, Sharon and Sandersville volunteer fire departments responded to the fire.
On arrival of the first responding fire apparatus, smoke was heavy around the single-story brick home and flames were found in the carport and living area of the home and the car inside was burning. The home sustained major damage.
The home next door also sustained minor damage during the incident, with siding burned and some windows shattered.  No injuries were reported. Firefighters from Calhoun VFD were also on the scene lending a hand.
