19-year-old identified as victim in Sharkey County shooting

SHARKEY COUNTY, Miss.(VDN) — 19-year-old Demario Conner Jr. has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting Friday night in Sharkey County, Mississippi.

The shooting occurred in Anguilla, where Conner was pronounced deceased by Sharkey County Coroner Robert Barfield Jr.

The Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday morning in a Facebook post that two suspects are in custody in connection with the shooting. Investigators also urged anyone with information to come forward.

“We urge anyone who may have information related to this incident to come forward and contact the Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department,” the post read. “Your cooperation could be vital in helping bring closure and justice to the family.”

Conner was a former standout football player at South Delta High School, where he graduated in 2025. That same year, he signed a football scholarship to play at Mississippi Delta Community College.

Authorities have not released the names of the two suspects, and the investigation remains ongoing.
