The Omega Lamplighters is an organization within the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc that mentors young men in the community. Their mission is to prepare young men to be responsible citizens through a village of community mentors teaching perseverance, self-awareness, and confidence.

The eight inducted went through a 12-week process in which they learned the history of the organization along with practicing their dance routines with members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Eta Tau Chapter.

“I’m excited to see what this organization is all about,” West said. “We had fun throughout the process and we learned a lot.”

On Sunday, the eight Lamplighters were all introduced at Warren Central Junior High School. Each member received a nickname and was able to show off their dance moves in front of a crowd.

“I just wanted to give this a try and I’m glad I did,” Caden Barnett said.

The Eta Tau Chapter will serve as mentors to the Lamplighters as they will soon be participating in a host of community service projects. Christopher Barnett, of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Eta Tau Chapter, and Executive Director for the Omega Lamplighters of West Central Mississippi, mentioned that it takes a village and that the Lamplighters will have monthly meetings where they will discuss important issues, how to be better citizens in the community, and plan volunteer assignments.

Sunday’s induction ceremony will go down in history as the eight inductees are a part of the inaugural class.

“We’re looking to encourage people to do good and join Omega,” 13-year-old Jackson said. “I’m following in my PaPa’s footsteps and I’ve always wanted to be an Omega.”

Vision: “To be the premiere organization building a village that empowers & supports young men to achieve more than they thought possible.”
