VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Four members of the Vicksburg Fire Department were promoted to lieutenant in a ceremony held Tuesday morning at the VFD Training Center. One additional firefighter, Dana Myrick, was promoted to captain but was absent from the ceremony due to illness.

Khari Holt, Charlie Hill III, Jeffrey Hearn, and Robert Quimby were each pinned by family and friends during the ceremony.

“You set the expectations high, and people will rise and meet the standard,” said Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps. “That’s what these four gentlemen have done throughout our promotional process, and we thank them for that. We need leaders like that throughout this department to help carry it forward.”

Mayor Willis Thompson thanked the families and said no one achieves anything alone.

“I know Vicksburg is a safer place to live because of our fire department—for that, I say thank you,” said Thompson. “I also want to thank your families. You know, sometimes when we’re studying, training, and trying to move up the ranks, it’s the people with us who allow us to do these things. So to your families and loved ones—the people who stand beside you—I want to say thank you to them also. I don’t believe we achieve anything alone, but the people who stand with us are a big help in getting us where we want to be.”
