Alonzo Stevens Honored with Prestigious Award

VICKSBURG, Miss. — Alonzo Stevens, a dedicated member of the Vicksburg Warren School District (VWSD) Board of Trustees, has been honored by the Mississippi School Boards Association (MSBA) as part of the 2023-2024 Continuing Board Development (CBD) Honors Program. Stevens completed an outstanding 80.25 hours of training, earning him the coveted John L. Hartman Memorial Award, a distinction recognizing exceptional leadership and commitment to professional development.
The John L. Hartman Memorial Award celebrates school board members who go above and beyond to enhance their governance skills. Stevens’ achievement reflects his unwavering dedication to creating a positive impact on the district’s students and educators. Through his service, he has become a model of excellence in school board leadership.
As a trustee for VWSD, Stevens is part of a team devoted to the district’s mission of fostering academic excellence and preparing students for success. The VWSD Board of Trustees also includes Bryan Pratt (District 1), James Stirgus, Jr. (District 3), Tawina Dotson (District 4), and Joe Loviza (District 5). Together, this team provides strategic leadership to ensure that policies and initiatives align with the educational needs of the community.
The CBD Honors Program, established by the MSBA, is designed to encourage ongoing professional development for school board members. This initiative ensures that trustees remain informed and equipped to meet the ever-evolving challenges of public education. Participants are required to attend workshops, conferences, and other learning opportunities aimed at improving governance practices and fostering student success.
