When shopping for your Christmas tree this year, the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce wants you to think “Genuine MS Grown.”

The Magnolia State boasts 26 Christmas tree farms where you can pick your perfect tree while also supporting Mississippi’s economy. Take the kids and start a family tradition.

To help you make your choice, MDAC has set up a special website to help you pick the right tree type for you, find a farm, take care of your live tree throughout the holiday season and then dispose of it properly.

“Buying from one of Mississippi’s Christmas tree farms means you’re supporting the local economy and the environment,” the website states, and lists the benefits of purchasing a live tree.

  • They’re biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
  • Christmas trees absorb carbon dioxide and dangerous toxins in the air.
  • They protect water resources, prevent erosion and provide habitat for wildlife.
  • Each acre of growing Christmas trees produces enough oxygen daily for 18 people.
  • More than 500,000 acres of Christmas tree farms across North America produce enough oxygen for 9 million people.

And, of course, there’s nothing like the scent of fresh pine to add just the right seasonal touch to every holiday get together.

The Christmas tree website is part of the department’s Genuine MS program, which highlights food, crafts and products produced in Mississippi.
