Columbia Man Admitted to his Wife’s Murder;Bond Set

Hattiesburg, Ms-On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at approximately 10 a.m., Hattiesburg Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the 000 block of Park Place Ave., where an individual had wrecked into a building.
When officers arrived, they discovered the driver unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. The female victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The victim’s husband, Kenrod Cartez Echols, 50, of Columbia, contacted authorities shortly after officers arrived and admitted to his involvement in the shooting.
Echols has been charged with First Degree Murder, Tampering with Evidence and Malicious Mischief and has been booked into Forrest County Jail.
Echols’ bond was set at $800,000 on Monday.
