VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Police Officer Edward Knight has been named officer of the year by the American Legion and another local organization.

At a ceremony held last night at an area venue, the community celebrated first responders. Chief Larry Burns served as the guest speaker for the event.

In a post on their social media page, the VPD said, “The evening was a true celebration of service, honoring first responders across Warren County and Vicksburg from the Vicksburg Police Department, Vicksburg Fire Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.”

“We are especially proud of VPD’s nominees, Officer Edward Knight and Investigator Lee Williams. Congratulations to Officer Knight on being named the 2026 Officer of the Year! In addition to this honor, Officer Knight also received the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award from the American Legion, a well-deserved recognition of his dedication and service to our community.”

The event is hosted by the Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolent Club.
