VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Ella Mae Gaskin Klein, born on May 22, 1959, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, transitioned from this life on January 16, 2026. She was a beloved member of her family and community, known for her kind spirit, unwavering faith, and dedication to her career and loved ones.

Ella began her career working at Anderson Tully and Jefferson Funeral Home before settling into a fulfilling career in contract nursing. Through her work, she touched the lives of many, providing comfort and care to those in need. Her commitment to service extended beyond her profession, as she actively participated in her church community, proudly serving as the choir director of Little Sister M. B. Church. Ella’s passion for music and her leadership in the choir were profound sources of joy and inspiration to those who sang alongside her.

She is survived by her daughter, Evangelean Gaskin (Felix); her sister, Marsha Powell; and her brothers, Preston Gaines (Jewel), T.J. Gaines (Maggie), and Serboya Delotta (Marcella). Ella was a cherished grandmother to Kiearia Sims (Martavis), Da’Charles Tyler, and Felysia Tyler, and had the honor of being a great grandmother to Devonte Jackson, Mai’jour Moore, and Mauri Moore. In addition, she leaves behind a host of family and friends who will profoundly miss her presence.

Ella was predeceased by her parents, Ada and Preston Gaines, and her beloved grandparents, Sim and Bessie Putman. She was also preceded in death by her brothers J.C. Gaines, Charles J. Scott, and J.D. Gaines, as well as her sisters, Daisy L. James and Rosetta O. Royster. Ella held dear the memory of her special cousins, Minnie Putman, Judy Harris, and Lucinda Reynolds, who were an integral part of her life.

A visitation to honor Ella’s memory will be held on January 23, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C J Williams Mortuary Center in Vicksburg, MS. Following this, a Celebration of Life will take place at Greater Grove Street M. B. Church on January 24, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM.

Ella Mae Gaskin Klein’s legacy is one of love, faith, and community service. She will forever be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the lasting impact she made on everyone lucky enough to know her. May she rest in peace.
