Eight local students receive scholarships at MLK Scholarship Breakfast

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Eight local students were awarded scholarships during the 37th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast on Monday at the Vicksburg Convention Center.

The annual event was hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Omicron Rho Lambda Chapter, and drew a large crowd of community members and local leaders. Established in 1990, the scholarship breakfast is held each year to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while raising funds to support students in the Vicksburg-Warren area.

The 2026 scholarship recipients represent several local schools. Honorees included Ashton James of the Academy of Innovation; Nia McDaniel, Brillion King, Karina Curtis, Curin Rogers, Matthias Williams and Milah Davis, all of Vicksburg Junior High School; and Paige Williams of Warren Central Junior High School.
