Larry Allen, a ceramicist out of Birmingham, Alabama, won the “Best in Show” award. “What a surprise!” said Allen, who uses a technique called sgraffito. He covers the clay with a color pigment and then carves a design back into it. “I do what you call double-walled vessels where you create a cavity inside to give it some space within.” Allen went on to praise Vicksburg and the Hipstoric Art Festival for putting on the event. “Everyone has been great.”
