VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The City of Vicksburg honored the Vicksburg Theatre Guild for celebrating it’s 90th consecutive season at the June 2 city board meeting.

“In honor of its 90th season, the City of Vicksburg recognizes the Vicksburg Theatre Guild for its decades of artistic excellence and community impact,” said Mayor George Flaggs Jr.

The guild has been performing since 1936 in Vicksburg, including at the Sprague until the famous steamboat burned in 1979. They currently hold performances at the Parkside Playhouse.

“It’s been an honor to serve the community and watch everybody come in and participate in our productions,” said Sarah Goss. “We’ve got people that started off little bitty, five or six years old and have grown up [in the theatre]. It’s a great thing to be a part of.”

“I don’t know what I’d be doing with out it in my life,” said Shanna Dixon. “That’s my me time, it definitely keeps us busy.”

In May, the guild held an open-house where they unveiled their upcoming performances for it’s 90th season. They also offered tours of the historic playhouse, held chats with directors and membership staff, and gave a behind-the-scenes look at how community theater comes to life.
