Judge Toni Terrett held a successful “All Rise” workshop for kids on Tuesday
Honorable Judge Toni Terrett hosted the “All Rise” workshop on Tuesday, providing local students with a unique opportunity to gain insight into the workings of the court system. Children aged 10-17 were selected to witness
firsthand the operations of Warren County’s justice system, engaging with various community representatives throughout the event.
The workshop commenced with Circuit Court Judge Terrett, alongside Municipal Court Judges Angela Carpenter and Penny Lawson, offering explanations on the distinctions between the different courts. They shared their concerns about the escalating youth-related crimes in the community before opening the floor for the students to ask questions.
Police Chief Penny Jones, Sheriff Martin Pace, and District Attorney Ricky Smith also addressed the attendees.
Chief Jones shed light on the process of arrests, while Sheriff Pace discussed jurisdiction in both the city and county, elaborating on the functioning of the jail system.
Contributing to the event’s success, Attorneys Kimberley Nailor and Tiffany Pendelton outlined the path to becoming a lawyer to the students.
The workshop culminated with a mock trial, offering the children the opportunity to role-play as judges, defense attorneys, and prosecutors.
