Mississippi man sentenced to 30 years for a 2021 murder

A 20-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Natchez. Terrance Shelvy received a 30-year sentence for his role in the 2021 death of Mikel Chatman.

Shelvy was arrested on January 21, 2021, after Chatman was killed after a fight at the Williams Apartments on Aldrich Street. When police arrived, Chatman was found lying on his back with a gunshot wound. 

Under state law, Shelvy must serve every day of his 30-year sentence.
