A Jackson man has lost his life after attempting to flee from law enforcement yesterday.

Around 6p.m. Wednesday, Capitol Police (CP) officers observed a 2007 white Toyota Tundra driving recklessly at a high rate of speed without a tag on West Street.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by 37-year-old, Maurice Taylor. Taylor then fled, leading officers on a pursuit throughout various streets in Jackson. The vehicle eventually left the roadway and struck an embankment surrounding a culvert.

Taylor was transported from the scene in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC).

At the scene, CP officers discovered the vehicle was stolen out of Jackson. Officers also recovered two (2) stolen firearms and multiple stolen catalytic converters from inside the vehicle.

The accident scene is being investigated by Jackson Police Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
