VICKSBURG, Miss. – Mayor Flaggs is pleased to announce that the first budget hearing for the City of Vicksburg held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 was a success. The initial discussions were productive, and the city is making significant progress toward achieving a balanced budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

“We had a very constructive first hearing, and I am confident that with continued hard work, we will achieve our financial goals,” said Mayor Flaggs. “Our primary focus remains on ensuring the well-being of our dedicated employees while maintaining the city’s fiscal health.”

The Mayor highlighted the city’s commitment to sustaining recent salary increases for public safety employees. This investment in our first responders is essential to retaining and attracting talented individuals who are crucial to the safety and security of our community.

In addition to supporting public safety personnel, the budget plan includes provisions to address salary adjustments for other city employees. By October 1, 2024, employees earning $50,000 or less will receive a pay raise of up to 3%. For those earning above $50,000, a similar raise will be implemented by January 1, 2025.

“We recognize the hard work and dedication of all our city employees,” Mayor Flaggs added. “These planned raises reflect our commitment to valuing their contributions while carefully managing our resources.”

There will also be a recommendation to increase the rental fees of the City Auditorium and the City Pavilion. “Due to increasing operational costs and budgetary constraints, we find ourselves in a position where we must make difficult decisions. As part of this necessary adjustment, we will be implementing a modest increase in the rental fees for the City Auditorium and the City Pavilion. Additionally, there will be a recommendation made for residents to cover half of the cost of residential trash pickup,” said Mayor Flaggs.

As the budget process continues, Mayor Flaggs wants to assure residents that the City of Vicksburg remains focused on balancing financial stewardship and providing the best quality service at the least cost to the taxpayers.
