Mayor Flaggs Announces Ribbon Cutting for City of Vicksburg New Animal Shelter
VICKSBURG, Miss. – Mayor George Flaggs, Jr., alongside city officials, community leaders, and supporters, is excited to announce the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new City of Vicksburg Animal Shelter. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 12, at 4 p.m. at the shelter’s new location at 65 Cedars Rd.
This new facility includes four cat rooms, three dog rooms, an intake and treatment room, better cat cages, insulated dog doors, and a private room for meeting animals without the stress of other animals in sight. Most importantly, the shelter will now be housed in one centralized building, providing a more efficient and welcoming environment for animals, staff, and visitors.
Mayor Flaggs expressed his gratitude for the community’s support: “Just as we prioritize infrastructure and public safety, the care and welfare of our animals are equally vital. This updated shelter will prove to be a source of community pride, demonstrating our commitment to humane values and caring for those who cannot care for themselves.”
Animal Control Supervisor Kacie Lindsey also shared her excitement: “We are so proud of what this new facility will offer. The upgrades will allow us to provide the highest level of care for our animals and make it easier for families to adopt in a stress-free environment. We are especially grateful to the Friends of the Animal Shelter for their generous $50,000 donation, which made the improved cat cages possible. Their support has been invaluable.”
In a wonderful show of community involvement, the shelter will showcase artwork created by students from the Dana Road Elementary School art class, adding a colorful and uplifting element to the celebration.
While animals will not be present in the shelter on the day of the ribbon cutting, guests are welcome to tour the facility and view the students’ artwork. The animals will move into their new home the following Monday, December 16, 2024.
“This facility isn’t just for the animals-it’s for the entire community,” added Mayor Flaggs. “A well-maintained animal shelter contributes to public health and safety by addressing issues related to stray animals and promoting responsible pet ownership.”
The public is invited to join us for this momentous occasion. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with you and showcasing a facility that reflects our city’s commitment to humane values and responsible care.
