Number of jobs has reached an all-time high
JACKSON, Miss. (VDN) — Governor Tate Reeves announced Sept. 19 that Mississippi’s total nonfarm employment reached a new record high in August with 1,205,500 jobs.
“Mississippi is making history — we did it again today,” Reeves said in a statement. “Record private sector investment, higher wages, more jobs — that’s what’s happening in Mississippi. We went to work on behalf of Mississippians, and we’ve delivered tangible results. It’s another great day for our state.”
The employment milestone follows other recent economic developments. Earlier this week, Reeves announced that Mississippi ranked second in the nation for household income growth in 2024. In August, he unveiled that AVAIO Digital is constructing a $6 billion data center campus at the East Metropolitan Center Business and Industrial Park in Brandon.
The economic development project is the third largest in state history. Since Reeves took office, more than $41 billion in new private sector investment has been announced, along with thousands of high-paying jobs across the state, officials said.
