Pace is now Warren County’s Longest Serving Sheriff
VICKSBURG, MS – Martin Pace is officially Warren County’s longest-serving sheriff after spending over 28 years(plus 10 months) in his current position. Pace officially surpassed former Sheriff Paul Barrett who served over 27 years before retiring in 1995.
January 1996, Sheriff Pace was selected as the Interim Sheriff and was elected for his first full term later in that year. Before joining the Sheriff’s Department, Pace spent two years beginning in 1979 as a state park ranger. In 1981, he was hired by the WCSO where he started off in the county jail.
Over the years, Pace worked his way up the chains as he was promoted to uniform patrol, investigations, and now Sheriff. Since taking over as Sheriff, Pace has earned the responsibilities of controlling the county jail, providing deputies for the county courthouses, and having jurisdiction within the entire county.
Whether it’s on a crime scene, in court, tragic accidents, or removing a snake from a vehicle, Pace is frequently involved with something within Warren County. He’s now been elected eight times and manages to remain committed to the people of Warren County even while fighting through COVID-19.
Pace is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi (including graduate hours from USM and the University of Virginia), Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training, and the FBI National Academy. He has also graduated from countless state and federal training programs as well as being an instructor at Hinds CC for over 15 years.
