Robert Esco Breland, Sr., 1926 – 2023

Robert Esco (Bob) Breland, Sr., 96, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, after a lengthy illness. He was a resident at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. The visitation and funeral will both be at Glenwood Funeral Homes, 145 Hwy 80, Vicksburg, MS on Monday, February 20, 2023. Visitation will commence at 10:00 AM, and the funeral service will start at 11:00 AM. A short graveside service will follow, at Cedar Hills Cemetery in Vicksburg. Reverend Billy Talbert will officiate both services.

Robert served his country as a corporal from 1953 – 1955 during the Korean War. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington and subsequently at the U.S. Atomic Proving Grounds in Indian Springs, Nevada. He was a longtime resident of Vicksburg and was employed at R.G. LeTourneau for 37 years. His coworkers said he was a good man, who you could always depend on when you needed him. He was a True Son of the South, his great-grandfather Elisha Breland having fought in the Civil War. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a loving father to five children, eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ollie and Euna Breland of Bogalusa, LA; wife Sarah Eloise; two sons Gary Wayne and Baby Breland of Vicksburg; one great-granddaughter Natalie Gregg of Vicksburg; and sisters Ernie and Irma Lee of Bogalusa, LA.

He is survived by three children and their spouses: Robert Breland, Jr. (Vicki), Randy Breland, and Brenda Cook (Brab). He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Joshua Cook, Randy Breland, Jr., Heath Smylie, James Floyd, Brabston Cook, and John Stauts. Honorary pallbearers are Durell Wildman, Dwayne Wildman, Frankie Wildman, Sammy Wildman, Donnie Wildman, Edwin Wildman, and Barry Bedells.

The family would like to express gratitude to the caring staff of Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Vicksburg for the care and compassion provided in Robert’s final months, and to the thoughts and prayers of friends and family.
