Shalanda Harris named head coach of Vicksburg High basketball cheer team

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Shalanda Harris has been named head coach of the Vicksburg High School basketball cheerleading team.
Harris steps into the role after serving last season as the ninth grade head coach. She said she is eager to continue working with the program and to lead the varsity squad.
“I’m excited about taking over the varsity cheer team,” Harris said. “My favorite motto is teamwork makes a dream work. I’m looking forward to a great season because we’re a team of sisters.”
To prepare for the upcoming season, Harris has organized regular practices and scheduled a camp with Hype Athletics. She has also selected team leaders for the 2025 season. The captains are Jordan Tillman, with Myrianna Myles, Nyla Henton and La’Porsha Hall serving as co-captains.
“My goal for my girls is to get better this year,” Harris said. “That means improving our skills, building our confidence and supporting each other as a team.”
A 2002 graduate of Vicksburg High, Harris went on to earn both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Alcorn State University. She has received her master’s of art in teaching from Jackson State University and is now pursuing a specialist from William Carey University.
The official Vicksburg High School basketball season begins in November where fans will have the chance to see the team cheer under Harris’ leadership.
