Traffic stop leads to narcotics arrest
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — One person was arrested after a traffic stop where the officer noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
In a release, the VPD said that on January 13, 2025, VPD Officer Pope conducted a traffic stop on a Honda Civic traveling on Halls Ferry Road near Tanglewood Drive. Upon making contact with the driver, a strong odor of marijuana was noticed emanating from the vehicle.
Officer Pope then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle due to the odor of marijuana. The search yielded a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun, over seven ounces of Marijuana, over 40 dosage units of Hydrocodone, over an ounce of Crystal Methamphetamine, multiple Oxycodone pills, and a set of digital scales.
The driver of the vehicle, Charley Brown, 30, was arrested and charged with trafficking controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute, and possession of a Schedule 2 narcotic without a prescription. Additionaly Brown will be charged with a weapon enhancement penalty involving illegal narcotics.
Brown was out on bond for a previous drug-related charge. He was arraigned at the Vicksburg Municipal Court on January 15, where Judge Carapenter set Brown’s bond at $150,000.
