VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — One person was seriously injured in a two vehicle collision on Highway 27 at Paxton.

At about 3:45 a.m., a blue Chevy sedan and a white SUV collided on Highway 27 at Paxton Road. While the cause of the two vehicle collision is still under investigation, it appears the blue sedan was northbound when it made contact with the southbound SUV.

The single occupant of the blue Chevy sedan was trapped in the vehicle and seriously injured in the collision. Units with the Warren County Fire Service and Rescue worked to free the driver. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office, including Deputy Clemts, closed the roadway while first responders worked the accident.

Using spreaders and cutters, commonly called “The Jaws of Life,” first responders were able to free the driver of the blue Chevy sedan. The driver was then placed in a fire medic unit for transfer to an area hospital. There is no recent update on their condition.

The three passengers in the white SUV included an infant who was uninjured in the accident. The plates on that vehicle were not from Warren County. The driver of the SUV, a male, was largely uninjured but the passenger, a female, received minor injuries. She was transferred to an area hospital along with the driver and infant.

A large debris field was in the roadway and took some time to clean up. The roadway has since reopened.
