Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department receives $100K in federal funding
PORT GIBSON, Miss.(VDN) — The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department received $100,000 in federal funding Tuesday to support equipment upgrades, training and community safety efforts.
The department was one of 10 sheriff’s offices in Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District selected to receive the funding. Each agency was awarded $100,000 through a Community Project Special Appropriation.
Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods accepted the check on behalf of the department from U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson.
Goods said the funding comes at a critical time for the agency, which is in need of updated equipment and patrol vehicles.
“This investment will directly enhance our ability to protect our deputies and provide safer, more effective service to the people of Claiborne County,” Goods said. “This appropriation will have an immediate and lasting impact on public safety throughout our community.”
Goods credited Thompson for his continued support of law enforcement and emphasized the importance of ensuring officers have the proper tools to perform their duties safely.
He also recognized Clarence Scutter for his continued service to Claiborne County, noting that Scutter has remained actively involved in supporting community safety efforts even after retiring from public office.
The funding is intended to strengthen local law enforcement agencies across the district by improving resources and enhancing public safety initiatives.
