DELTA, La. (VDN) — According to reports, a Vicksburg man was arrested Monday, Jan. 12, after leading law enforcement officers on a high speed chase in Louisiana.

The Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office identified Kaleb Davis, 22, of Vicksburg as the suspect.

According to reports, MPS Deputies were assisting the Tallulah Police Department search for a wanted person at Blooms Apartments in Tallulah, La., following the report of an altercation at the complex. A sheriff’s deputy observed a suspected vehicle traveling east on U.S. Highway 80. When the deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver refused and lead the deputy on a high speed chase down Highway 80 with speeds exceeding 100 mph.

As the pursuit approached the Village of Delta, a Delta Marshal spotted the vehicle. According to MPSO the pursuit ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle and slid off the roadway. The driver attempted to flee deputies on foot, but was quickly apprehended by deputies.

Police records indicate that deputies located a backpack dropped by Davis in his attempt to flee. Inside the backpack, deputies found a 9mm handgun, an AK-47-style rifle, a substance consistent with marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

Davis was transferred to the Madison Parish Jail and booked on charges of fleeing from a law enforcement official, speeding, aggravated assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, illegal carrying of a weapon, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I narcotic and possession of drug paraphernalia. Davis was also charged by the Tallulah Police Department in reference to the incident occurring at the Blooms Apartment complex.

Madison Parish Sheriff Chad Ezell said he was glad the incident was resolved without injury to anyone.
