Vicksburg native Jazmin Green graduates from Washburn University School of Law

TOPEKA, KS. (VDN) — Vicksburg native Jazmin Green has officially graduated from Washburn University School of Law, a major milestone in her journey toward becoming a practicing attorney.
Green, who graduated with the Spring 2025 class, described the achievement as a result of years of dedication and hard work.
“I’ve always wanted to be a public servant,” Green said. “I’ve always wanted to help people, plus my father is an attorney as well, so that always inspired me.”
Green completed her studies in Topeka, Kansas—nearly 700 miles from her hometown. She admitted the distance and unfamiliar environment were among the biggest challenges during her time in law school.
“Moving to a place where I knew no one, while also learning so much so quickly, was tough,” Green said.
Despite those challenges, Green persevered and reached a goal she’s dreamed of for years.
“I was really excited when I graduated, and the most special thing about it was that I got to join the 2% of Black women who graduate from law school,” she said.
Green is a 2016 graduate of Vicksburg High School, where she was a cheerleader, softball player, and homecoming queen. She later attended Alcorn State University, where she also cheered during her undergraduate studies.
She is now preparing to take the Mississippi Bar Exam at the end of July and plans to practice criminal and family law.
“I want to stay in Mississippi and serve the community that built me up,” she said. “I also want to create a platform for African Americans who wish to enter law school.”
Green is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
