VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) – The Mississippi Orioles have announced the hiring of Marcus Ragan as the new head coach of their 12U team. Ragan, a Vicksburg native and graduate of Warren Central High School, will also serve as the organization’s baserunning coach.

Ragan brings a wealth of playing experience to the Orioles. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 15th round of the 2017 MLB Draft after a standout collegiate career at East Mississippi Community College. As a freshman, he was named First-Team All-MACJC, leading the team with a .395 batting average, 27 extra-base hits, and 25 stolen bases. His eight triples tied for fourth nationally that season. Over 84 collegiate games, Ragan posted a .370 career average, stole 38 bases, and held a .983 fielding percentage.

In 2019, Ragan played for Faulkner University where he had 64 hits, 40 RBIs, 12 doubles and a .364 batting average.

In his new role, Ragan will lead the 12U squad and oversee baserunning development across the organization, with a focus on speed, instincts, and situational awareness on the basepaths.

The Orioles praised Ragan’s professional-level insight and commitment to player development, welcoming him as a valuable addition to the program.

“Flock Up, O’s!” the team said in a statement announcing the hire.
