VICKSBURG, Miss. – Officials with the Vicksburg Main Street Program have named Norma Massey as this year’s Mardi Gras queen for Vicksburg’s 24th annual Mardi Gras Parade.

The parade, scheduled for Mar. 1 at 4 p.m., will take the normal parade route: starting at the Belmont and Washington St. intersection, proceeding north on Washington, and ending at the intersection of Jackson and Washington St.

“People come from all over just for this colorful annual event that lights up Washington Street with bright colors, beads, and a sense of playfulness,” says Kim Hopkins Executive Director Vicksburg Main
Street Program. “The parade will feature festive floats, marching bands, and more! All schools, bands, businesses, nonprofits, and civic organizations are invited to participate.

“Downtown Vicksburg is built on tradition, community, and a little bit of sparkle—just like Norma Massey! This year, she’s adding a royal touch to the festivities as she’s crowned Mardi Gras Queen for the 24th Annual Downtown Vicksburg Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

“For years, Norma has been a vital part of downtown, not only as the owner of Frederick’s Boutique, where she has helped generations find the perfect shoes but also as a passionate advocate for the community.

“She served on the Main Street Program Board of Directors, always working to support and strengthen local businesses and events. Whether through her shop, her involvement in downtown initiatives, or simply her friendly presence, she has been a constant source of warmth and generosity.

Being crowned Mardi Gras Queen is a well-deserved honor for someone who has spent so much of her life giving back to the city she loves. As she rides through the parade, the community has a chance to celebrate her in the same way she has always celebrated Vicksburg—by showing up, supporting one another, and making great memories together.”

For more information or if you’d like for your Krewe to participate in the upcoming parade, please email kimh@vicksburg.org or call the Main Street Office at 601-634-4527.
