Vicksburg’s Malik Franklin commits to William Carey University

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Malik Franklin, a Vicksburg native and former standout at Vicksburg High School, has committed to continue his basketball career at William Carey University. Franklin announced his decision Wednesday on social media.
Franklin most recently played at Jones College, where he helped lead the Bobcats to an impressive 30-4 record during the 2024-25 season. Known for his high energy and solid two-way play, Franklin averaged eight points per game as a sophomore. One of his most notable performances came in a key 82-78 win over Copiah-Lincoln Community College, when he poured in 23 points to spark the Bobcats’ victory.
Franklin’s journey to the college level began at Vicksburg High School, where he left a lasting legacy. As a senior, he led the Gators to a 24-4 record and was named Mississippi’s Mr. Basketball in Class 5A. His leadership and scoring ability made him one of the top players in the state and earned him attention from multiple college programs.
William Carey, an NAIA program located in Hattiesburg, will be adding a proven winner to its roster. The Crusaders are looking to build on recent success, and Franklin’s experience at both the high school and junior college levels is expected to bring depth and maturity to the team.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Franklin is aiming to make an immediate impact in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) as he takes the next step in his basketball career.
