13-year-old Mississippi student dies after football practice

PIKE COUNTY, Miss. (VDN) — A 13-year-old boy died last week in Mississippi after returning home from football practice, officials said.

Pike County Coroner Rashad Taylor said he responded to the incident around 5 p.m. Thursday. The teen was identified as Tra’Derric M. Hall, 13.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

The South Pike County School District released the following statement after Hall’s death:

“It is with deep sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our 8th grade students. During this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who were touched by his bright spirit.

“As a community, we come together to support one another. We understand that this loss will raise many emotions for our students, staff, and families, and we want to ensure that everyone has access to the support they need. Our counselors will be available throughout the coming days for any students or staff who may need someone to talk to or process their feelings.

“Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need assistance, and know that we are here for each other as we navigate through this challenging moment together.”
