Vicksburg, Miss. (VDN) – October 6th, 2025 – Alderman TJ Mayfield is proud to announce the successful passage of a new ordinance authorizing the installation of speed humps in Vicksburg neighborhoods. This important step is designed to slow traffic, protect pedestrians, and ensure safer streets.

Alderman Mayfield emphasized that this is part of his broader commitment to public safety. “In the past six months, I’ve had people from various neighborhoods in Ward 1 call asking about more preventative measures to address speeding in Ward 1. Although speed humps can often be seen as a nuisance, they will be used as a tool to save lives,” he added. “This ordinance is the result of residents raising their voices, and it shows what we can achieve when we work together for the good of our city.”

Under the new ordinance, residents or neighborhood associations may petition for the installation of a speed hump by obtaining a petition form from the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall. To qualify, at least 75% of residents along the affected street must sign in support. Once submitted, the Public Works Department will conduct a traffic study to ensure the location meets safety guidelines. Final approval for installation will be made by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, based on engineering recommendations and community support.

“This ordinance is about protecting our residents, especially our children and seniors, thus making our neighborhoods safer,” said Alderman Mayfield. “I’m committed to action, and this is a step in the right direction for our communities.

Speeding through our neighborhoods has been a serious yet dangerous concern for many families, and I’m proud to lead the charge of getting this important measure passed.” – October 6th, 2025 – Alderman TJ Mayfield is proud to announce the successful passage of a new ordinance authorizing the installation of speed humps in Vicksburg neighborhoods.
