The awards program gives MTA the opportunity to recognize members who excel in various sectors of the industry. Awards were presented in 24 categories, each highlighting a different aspect of the hospitality industry or individual achievement.

“Senator Hopson has been a steadfast partner to Mississippi’s tourism industry and has consistently understood the important role tourism plays in creating jobs, strengthening communities and generating economic opportunity across our state. As he prepares to conclude his service in the Mississippi Senate, we are especially proud to recognize the support he has provided to our industry throughout his tenure. From investing in tourism infrastructure to supporting workforce development and listening to the needs of tourism partners, his leadership has helped position our industry for continued growth. We are incredibly grateful for his service to Mississippi and for the lasting impact his support will have on tourism for years to come,” said MTA Executive Director, Danielle Morgan.

This year’s Governmental Tourism Leadership of the Year is awarded to a government entity that supports tourism and works well with tourism partners by lending support and helping grow tourism.

Senator W. Briggs Hopson III is a true example of Mississippi public service at its finest. Senator Hopson has repre- sented the 23rd District since 2008 and currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

A longtime supporter of Mississippi tourism, Senator Hopson has consistently recognized the industry’s importance to our state’s economy and communities. During the most recent legislative session, he was instrumental in the Sen- ate’s efforts to advance legislation that would elevate tourism within state government through the creation of a cabinet-level Department of Tourism.

He also played an instrumental role in securing $500,000 in state funding to support the Mississippi Tourism Asso- ciation’s Heart of Hospitality workforce and leadership development efforts and was a driving force in securing $40 million for the new Vicksburg Civil War Visitor Center, a project expected to generate significant economic impact for the region.

Senator Hopson has also supported initiatives including the Mississippi Blues Trail, Miss Mississippi Pageant, Mis- sissippi River Trail and Mississippi Main Street. Through his leadership, advocacy and continued support, he has proven to be a true ally of Mississippi’s tourism industry and an important partner in advancing its impact across the state.
