MONROE, La. (VDN) — A 2-year-old child was shot in the head and killed early Tuesday morning in Monroe, along with two adult men in what police are calling a triple homicide that has shaken the community.

Authorities said the victims were found on Grammont Street. One of the adult victims was identified as a 26-year-old man. Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis said the tragedy should serve as a moral wake-up call for the city.

“A two-year-old child, who was defenseless, had their life taken by people with evil intentions,” Ellis said. “We also had two other individuals who died with this. I believe it should be a moral wake-up call. We’ve made strides in crime reduction, but this is a sobering reminder that there’s still much work to be done.”

Monroe Police Chief Vic Zordan said investigators are following strong leads and are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

“You’ve got a baby killer running around on the loose right now,” Zordan said. “We’ve got some very good leads, thanks to fine detective work, and I’m hopeful we’ll have this special kind of criminal in jail very soon.”

During a press conference, officials said they believe drugs were involved in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
