VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Matt Williams, Warren Central High School’s ninth-grade head football coach, was recognized last week for guiding his team to a championship season. Williams received the honor during a parade held last Monday that also celebrated the school’s swim team and varsity football program following their championship campaigns.

As the parade concluded, Vicksburg-Warren School District Athletics Director James Lewis presented Williams with a certificate of achievement, commending his leadership and commitment to developing young athletes within the Vikings football program. The recognition highlighted a standout season for the freshman team, which Williams led to an undefeated record.

Earlier this fall, Williams guided the ninth-grade Vikings to a perfect 7-0 season, capped by a decisive 40-12 victory over Brandon in the final game to secure the Little Six Championship. The freshmen squad showed consistent growth throughout the year, combining disciplined defense with an efficient offense to dominate opponents across the schedule.

In addition to his role with the freshman team, Williams also serves as an assistant coach on the Warren Central varsity football staff. The varsity Vikings captured a state championship during the 2025 season, finishing the year with a 12-2 record.
