WOODVILLE, Miss(VDN) — Inmates at Wilkinson County Correctional Facility marked a milestone last week as they graduated from the “From Prison to Possibilities & Today’s Foodservice Workforce Program.”

Dozens of graduates sat in caps and gowns during the ceremony, celebrating the completion of a program designed to promote workforce development, mentorship and life skills for individuals preparing to reenter society.

The program provides practical training aimed at helping participants secure meaningful employment after release.

“Programs like this focus on workforce development, mentorship and life skills, preparing individuals with practical training that can lead to meaningful employment and successful reentry into society,” said Derrick Chambers, director who manages the private prison program for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Chambers credited Dr. Kim Nugent for her role in launching the Prison to Possibilities initiative.

“Dr. Nugent deserves a special thanks for her vision and leadership in bringing the Prison to Possibilities initiative to life,” Chambers said. “Her dedication to mentorship and rehabilitation continues to impact lives in a powerful way.”

He also recognized Warden Delaney and the staff at Wilkinson County Correctional Facility for their leadership and commitment to providing programs that encourage personal growth and positive change.

Chambers said initiatives focused on education, workforce training and mentorship can have a lasting impact beyond prison walls.

“When we invest in education, workforce training and mentorship, we strengthen not just individuals, but families, communities and the future of our state,” he said.
