Walter Armstrong named interim justice court judge
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Walter Armstrong, former Vicksburg police chief, has been named interim justice court judge.
Armstrong was selected by the Warren County Board of Supervisors on Monday after a lengthy search to fill the vacant seat left by James Jefferson, who died in February.
Armstrong is a respected lawman who spent decades serving the community. He served 25 years as a state trooper with the Mississippi Highway Patrol before becoming police chief in Vicksburg from 2009 to 2017.
After his time with the Vicksburg Police Department, Armstrong also served as police chief in Natchez before retiring four years later.
In 2021, a parade was held in his honor for his years of service, and he received the key to the city.
Armstrong will fill the vacant seat until a special election in November, where he is expected to run.
