Alderman TJ Mayfield celebrates graduation of more than 30 participants from the Mississippi Development Authority Contractors’ Development Program
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
Alderman TJ Mayfield is recognizing the achievements of more than 30 community members who recently graduated from the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) Contractors’ Development Program, a milestone that strengthens Vicksburg’s workforce and creates new opportunities for local businesses.
The program provides aspiring and established contractors with training in business operations, financial management, bidding processes, project management, and other skills needed to compete successfully in the construction industry.
“This graduation is an important accomplishment for every participant and a major win for our community,” said Alderman TJ Mayfield. “These graduates have invested their time and energy into developing the skills needed to grow successful businesses, create jobs, and contribute to the economic future of Vicksburg. When local contractors are given opportunities to compete and succeed, the entire community benefits,” Mayfield said. “Hiring local means keeping more dollars in Vicksburg, supporting local families, creating jobs, and building a stronger economy. Our local contractors understand our community’s needs, and they have a direct stake in its success. That’s why it’s so important that we continue creating pathways for them to grow and thrive.”
The Mississippi Development Authority’s Contractors’ Development Program was created to help small and emerging contractors gain the knowledge and resources necessary to expand their businesses and pursue larger contracting opportunities. Through classroom instruction, mentorship, and practical training, participants develop the skills needed to navigate the competitive construction industry.
Mayfield also praised the graduates for their commitment to professional growth and thanked the organizations and partners who helped make the program possible.
“I congratulate each graduate on reaching this milestone,” Mayfield said. “Their determination and willingness to invest in themselves demonstrate the talent and entrepreneurial spirit that exist throughout Vicksburg. I also want to thank the Mississippi Development Authority, our local partners, instructors, and community leaders for their commitment to helping these individuals succeed.”
“Programs like this are about more than professional development,” Mayfield added. “They are about empowering people, creating opportunities, and ensuring that Vicksburg’s growth includes local businesses and local talent. The future of our city is brighter when we invest in our own people.”
Alderman Mayfield said that there are plans for more workforce development programs planned in the future for different fields.
