VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg-Warren School District Board of Trustees member Alonzo Stevens has been named the recipient of the John L. Hartman Memorial Award, one of the top honors presented by the Mississippi School Boards Association. He was recognized Thursday during the board’s monthly meeting.

Stevens earned the award through the MSBA’s 2024-25 Continuing Board Development Honors Program, completing an impressive 65.5 hours of professional training. The Hartman Award is given to school board members who show exceptional commitment to strengthening their leadership and governance skills.

Stevens’ accomplishment reflects his ongoing dedication to improving educational outcomes for students and supporting the work of teachers and administrators. His continued investment in training and development has made him a model for school board leadership across the state.

A retired educator, Stevens spent more than 30 years in education. He also served as head football coach at Vicksburg High School from 2001 to 2011.
