Mississippi woman shoots and kills home invader

GULFPORT, Miss. (VDN) — A Mississippi woman shot and killed a man during a reported home invasion last week, according to police.

Authorities identified the man as Dangelo Murphy, 29, of Gulfport. Officers were called to a residence on 21st Street after a 911 caller reported a man had broken into the home through a window and was armed with a knife and a hammer.

Investigators said two women were inside the home at the time of the break-in. Both women had active protection orders against Murphy, police said. During the incident, one of the women suffered a minor knife wound.

Police reported that the two women were able to escape the immediate area of the confrontation and barricade themselves inside another room of the house. Authorities said the uninjured woman then retrieved a firearm and shot the intruder.

The incident remains under investigation at this time, and no charges have been announced.
