Ash Street Shooting Believed to be Accidental, One arrest Made
VICKSBURG, Miss. – A shooting last night on Ash Street, leaving one shot in the neck, is reported to be accidental.
On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at approximately 8:22 PM, officers responded to a report of a possible shooting at a residence on Ash Street. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and gathered initial information. One individual (a juvenile) was confirmed injured, and the investigation remains ongoing.
17-year-old Kenard Younger has been arrested relating to the incident and has been charged with aggravated assault. His bond was set at $100,000 and has been bound over to the grand jury.
Initial reports indicate the shooting was accidental. Family members said one of the three young men was playing with the weapon, tripped, fumbled with it, and it went off. The injured youth, who has not been identified at this time, was airlifted to a Jackson hospital, and remains in critical condition.
“A person of interest is currently in custody, and additional interviews are being conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. We encourage anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation,” said Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones. “The Vicksburg Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. We are not able to provide certain information as juveniles are involved.”
