Carson Gleese surpasses 1,000 career points as St. Aloysius cruises past Riverfield Academy
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Carson Gleese reached a milestone moment in his basketball career Saturday night, surpassing 1,000 career points in dominant fashion as St. Aloysius rolled past Riverfield Academy 69-35.
Gleese poured in 34 points to headline the victory, reaching the coveted mark early in the fourth quarter when he knocked down his sixth 3-pointer of the night, sending the home crowd into celebration.
“It’s a huge milestone that I always wanted to get in my life,” Gleese said. “It feels very good that I got it with my teammates that I’ve been playing with since I was 5 years old, so it’s not just for me — it’s for everyone.”
The Flashes set the tone early behind Gleese, who scored nine of St. Aloysius’ 20 first-quarter points as they jumped out to a 20-7 lead. St. Al continued to build separation in the second quarter, taking a 39-16 halftime advantage. Gleese connected on two 3-pointers in the period, while Garrod Bunch and Carter Henderson added timely baskets to keep the momentum firmly in St. Aloysius’ favor.
Gleese showed no signs of slowing after the break, drilling two more 3-pointers in the third quarter and scoring 12 points in the period alone. Bunch chipped in from the free-throw line as the Flashes pushed the lead further, leaving Gleese just three points shy of the milestone entering the fourth quarter.
The historic moment came early in the final period when Gleese buried another triple to eclipse 1,000 career points. With a running clock in effect, St. Aloysius continued to get contributions across the lineup as Grant Gattle and Walt Andrews added points to help the Flashes improve to 10-2 on the season.
In addition to Gleese’s 34 points, Bunch finished with 11. Gattle scored six points, Carson Henderson added five, Carter Henderson had four, and Andrews and Sadler Lambiotte scored two points apiece.
