Classical Easter concert to celebrate church restoration in Natchez

NATCHEZ, Miss. (VDN) — A special Easter afternoon concert will bring classical music and community spirit to Church Hill as musicians from across Mississippi perform Resurrection Sunday: A Celebration of Eternal Life at Christ Episcopal Church on April 20. The free concert, set for 2 to 2:45 p.m., will feature selections from Handel’s Messiah, works by Bach and more, in celebration of Easter and the restoration of the historic church building.
The event, titled Resurrection Sunday: A Celebration of Eternal Life, will not only celebrate the risen Christ but also mark the restoration of Church Hill’s historic Gothic Revival Episcopal church.
Musicians from Opera Mississippi and the University of Southern Mississippi will perform selections from Handel’s Messiah, Easter-themed works by Johann Sebastian Bach, and other classical pieces. These artists are in Natchez rehearsing for the May 2 performance of The Magic Flute, sponsored by the Natchez Festival of Music.
The concert is free and open to people of all faiths. A worship service will follow at 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.visitnatchez.org or email carolyn.smith@colin.edu.
